Usefulness of tag?

I personally don't believe this tag is necessary. It is easy enough to use a Warning or Note template within the article itself that redirects the reader to the newer feature rather than use a generic tag which tells them nothing except that the feature might not be the best suited one. I feel that items which are not deprecated but which have arguably been superceded (and who makes that call?) should simply have no tag in the lists, and just to use a template within the page informing them of the alternative(s).
