XMI, or XMIDI is a variant (and incompatible) MIDI format developed by John Miles for the Audio Interface Library, a middleware library for audio playback. AIL v2 was open-sourced; AIL v3 became the 
Miles Sound System and was bought by RAD Game Tools in 1995.
