A key is an inventory actor derived from Key. Keys have a few specific properties:

They are generally displayed on the HUD
The automap can represent them with a different map arrow when using the map cheat.
Keys are given lock values in the LOCKDEFS lump.
Several cheat codes and the give keys console command can be used to acquire all keys.
